By Randall Stone, K6RCS1 -Here are some recent antenna installations of mine. Given the weather, these were about the best I could do of late.HOME: The dual band is a workman UVS-300 with (purportedly) 9.5 dB / 11 dB of gain at 2m / 70 cm respectively. It is 16’ high on a 20’ steel mast. The 6 meter ground plane is a quarter wave Arrow antenna. Not much else is known about this antenna. The 40 meter dipole is a home brew inverted V on the gable of my house. It is made from RG-58 50 ohm Tandy coax of about 5 feet and very thick copper speaker wire for the ends measured to resonate approximately at 7.040 (perfect for my QRP rig). The positions of the north /south ends of the dipole are at radial 315 and 135. This means that the antenna’s effectiveness is East and West at radial 45 and 224 respectively (though around town I would imagine this would not make too much difference.) All these antennas are fed with 50’ of Cable Experts RG-8U directly (no junctions) with the exception of the dipole which, as indicated earlier, is fed with 5 feet of Tandy coax with an SO-239 barrel connector and a 50’ Cable Experts RG-8U coax into the house. Of course, the dipole only connects to my currently ineffective QRP rig. Hopefully we may be able to help it along soon. ‘Be looking for you on QRP !!-- Top
