If you have never handled traffic (messages) you have missed out on one of the more enjoyable aspects of Amateur Radio. Traffic nets are a training ground where operators pass routine traffic for the general public in order to hone their messages handling techniques and procedures in preparation for times of an actual emergency.
The majority of local nets (nets that cover about a 50 mile radius) are FM nets that usually utilize local repeaters. Area nets that cover several hundred miles are always HF nets that use either SSB or CW modes.
If you would like to learn more about Traffic Handling, check into one of the nets listed on this page.
